How the Dampp Chaser Dehumidifier Rod Works:The Dampp-Chaser Closet Dehumidifier Rod is a very simple electrical device that is mounted on the closet baseboard (brackets are included). The dehumidifier rod warms, dries and circulates air in the confined storage space through a continuous convection process. As the air is warmed, it becomes lighter and rises to the upper section of the enclosed space. At the same time, cooler, moist air sinks to the bottom where it is warmed again and the cycle begins again to keep your stored valuables protected from mold, mildew, rust and rot. The slight warming and drying of the air lowers its relative humidity and combined with the gentle circulation of the drier air; results in just the conditions you need to discourage mold growth. Just be sure to leave the Dampp-Chaser on during the moist seasons. Electrical use is minimal. For pennies a day, you can be assured of mold-free clothing and easier breathing.
How to choose the correct size and wattage Dampp Chaser rod for your storage area:To adequately protect your area from mold and mildew, you will need approximately 1 watt per 10 cubic feet of enclosed space. You can find the cubic feet of your closet by multiplying the width x depth x height in feet. For example, if your area is 6 ft wide 3 ft deep and 8ft tall; it would be 144 cubic feet, so you will need about 15 watts. Looking at the table above you can see that the 24" model producing 15 watts would be the ideal choice. For larger walk-in closets and storage areas, you will need to combine several Dampp Chaser rods to achieve the best results.
If you live in a humid location, you know what kind of damage can arise when damp, moist air is allowed to grow mold and mildew. Use the the Dampp-Chaser to keep food in the pantry dry, fresh and crisp, in linen closets to keep your linens fresh-smelling and mildew-free, in basements to protect your tools from rust and in rental storage units to protect your stored valuables.
