Other powered dehumidifiers use heavy motors and compressors to compress a refrigerant and then allow the refrigerant to expand and cool; like a refrigerator. The cooling causes water to condense like it does on the sides of a cold glass.

The EDV-2200 Energy Efficient Dehumidifier uses a different and more environmentally friendly method to cool and dehumidify. No compressor, no refrigerant. Instead the EDV-2200 uses a solid state thermoelectric effect to wring moisture out of the air.
